Geschichten aus dem Wiener Wald

The music

For this play, I composed string arrangements, remixed early 20th century gramophone recordings, used broken pianos and zither as the main instruments and mixed Austrian folk songs with electronic elements.

“In the Hof production, the beautiful Blue Danube becomes the metaphor for a cabinet of characters who make you cringe on their behalf. Through grotesque distortion and a spirited ensemble, it is brought closer to the audience than a sentimental social drama ever could have.”

“Kuhnert's production, which sustains almost three hours without any loss of mood or tension, is what you would call grotesque. You would gladly have been amused, if only the story weren't so abhorrent; and really you ought to turn away in horror, were there not so much that is downright funny.”
